Damage Survey & Average — Inland Shipping

We deliver independent damage and average surveys for commercial inland shipping — cargo vessels, tankers, push/coupling convoys, passenger and work boats. Reports are forensic, insurance- and court-grade.

    Typical scenarios

We routinely handle ship-to-ship collisions, contact with locks, berths, jetties and bridges, groundings, ingress of water, fire and explosion damage, machinery and gearbox damage and failures of pumps, hydraulics and hatch systems — plus cargo damage on bulk, general and container cargo.

    Average survey procedure

In urgent average, evidence preservation is time-critical. We coordinate attendance as quickly as possible — at the berth, yard or dry dock — and document damage pattern, environment, marks, traces, log books, watch records and radio traffic.

Damage is then technically evaluated (cause, scope, repair route, residual value) and put into a written report. For complex cases we provide interim updates and align continuously with owners, insurers, yards and correspondent lawyers.

    Interface to insurance and law

Our reports are built to hold up in both insurer-internal claims and contested proceedings. Causation, scope and quantum are stated transparently; finding and evaluation are kept separate; methodology is documented.

On request we co-operate with average commissioners, lawyers and counter-experts and act as expert witness in mediation or court.

    Cargo & loading damage

For cargo damage we document condition, stowage plan, securing, climate and moisture, pumping operations and handover protocols, integrating freight papers and CMR/CMNI documents.
