    Boat & Yacht Valuation

We establish the realistic market value of your boat or yacht — documented, with time value, replacement value and market references. Recognised by insurers, banks, courts and tax authorities.

    What a valuation delivers

A valuation documents the current market value of a boat or yacht at a defined reference date. It assesses build quality, condition, equipment level, maintenance history and market position against current listings and realised sale prices of comparable vessels.

Depending on the purpose, we separately state time value, replacement value and — where relevant — insured value. The result is a written, photo-documented report with valuation methodology, market references and condition classification.

    When you need a valuation

Typical reasons for a boat valuation:

    • Sale, trade-in or brokerage consignment
    • Insurance inception or adjustment of the sum insured after refit
    • Financing or collateral with a bank or leasing company
    • Inheritance, gift, anticipated succession
    • Separation or divorce (asset settlement)
    • Export of the boat (e.g. Mediterranean) and related value documentation
    • Tax valuation or private withdrawal from business assets

    Process

After scoping we arrange an on-site appointment at the berth, in winter storage or on the slip. The survey covers visual inspection of hull, deck, propulsion, electrics, steering, rig (sailing yachts) and equipment, plus moisture measurement on GRP boats. Maintenance, ownership and equipment documentation is fully reviewed.

We then perform market research: comparable listings, realised sale prices and residual-value curves for the relevant builder and model. From this we derive market value, time value and, if needed, replacement value. The written report is usually delivered within 5–10 working days.

    Typical cost range

Fees depend on type, size, build and travel. A standalone valuation without purchase or damage scope is typically EUR 600–1,500 net for sport and motor boats; larger yachts accordingly higher. A binding written cost indication is provided before commissioning.

    Qualification & recognition

Our surveyors hold long-standing yard, repair and surveying experience together with regularly audited surveying qualifications. Our valuations are accepted by insurers, banks, courts and tax authorities as a basis for valuation.

We work strictly independently — no commissions from sale, yard or repair work — so the valuation serves the client only.

    Frequently asked questions

What does a boat valuation cost?
Typically EUR 600–1,500 net for sport and motor boats. Length, build, equipment, slip effort and travel drive the fee. A written cost indication is provided before commissioning.
How do market value, time value and replacement value differ?
Market value is the price achievable on the open market at the reference date. Time value adds depreciation against the new price. Replacement value is the cost of an equivalent replacement today — primarily relevant for insurance.
Is the valuation accepted by my insurer?
Yes. Our valuations meet the customary requirements of sport and yacht insurers across the DACH region. On request we issue it in the specific form required by your insurer.
Do banks and tax authorities accept your valuations?
Yes. Our written valuations are regularly used for bank collateral and tax valuation and are court-usable as a valuation basis.
How long is a valuation valid?
The stated value refers to a reference date. For most purposes — sale, insurance, financing — a valuation no older than 12–24 months is expected. After material changes to the boat or market, a short update is recommended.
Does the valuation include a technical inspection?
Yes. A visual and functional inspection is the prerequisite for any substantiated valuation. For a full purchase decision we recommend combining it with a pre-purchase survey including sea trial.
